For Part 61 flight instruction

Logbooks, endorsements, and currency — out of the shoebox.

Independent CFIs and Part 61 providers don't need an airline back office — they need the airman record done right. Digital logbook, endorsement history, credential expiries, and 8710 prep on one timeline.

Launching the first quarter of 2027.

61.51 digital logbook

A proper 61.51 logbook with integer-tenths times across total, PIC, SIC, cross-country, night, and instrument, and ForeFlight-compatible CSV both directions. You keep your existing ForeFlight history and stop maintaining two records that drift apart. It replaces the paper logbook and the shoebox it lives in.

Replaces: the paper logbook and the shoebox it lives in

  • Integer-tenths times: total / PIC / SIC / XC / night / instrument
  • ForeFlight-compatible CSV import and export
  • Keep your existing ForeFlight history — one record, not two

How an operator uses this

An independent CFI's week

An independent CFI finishes a lesson, marks the session complete, and the time posts to the right logbook bucket by seat flown — instruction given lands where it belongs without re-typing at the end of the day. The ForeFlight history they already keep imports and exports as CSV both ways, so there aren't two records drifting apart.

A student is ready for a checkride, so the CFI issues the endorsement and it becomes a row with its expiry, the issuing instructor, and the stored signed document — not a note in a paper logbook or a text thread. The 8710-1 builds straight from the completed training records and exports IACRA-ready, instead of being hand-filled.

On the recurrency dashboard, the CFI's own flight review and a student's medical are on a Due-Soon timeline, so currency is tracked rather than remembered. It's the airman record done right — without the airline back office a one-instructor shop would never use.

Auto-connecting flight time

When a flight or lesson is marked complete, the time posts to the right logbook bucket automatically based on the seat flown, so instruction given and received land where they belong without re-typing. Auto-posted rows dedupe against manual and imported entries. It replaces the end-of-day reconciliation between the schedule and the logbook.

  • Completed sessions post to the logbook by seat flown
  • No re-typing at the end of a duty day

Endorsement issuance

Issue an endorsement and it becomes a row with its expiry, the issuing CFI, and the stored signed document; renewals preserve the history. You can see whose endorsements are about to lapse instead of finding out at the next lesson. It replaces endorsements scattered across paper and text threads.

04Airman records

Credentials vault

Certificates, ratings, and medicals live on one record with their expiry dates and scanned documents, and the system flags what's coming due. A lapsed medical or flight review stops being something you have to remember. It replaces tracking currency by memory.

Recurrency dashboard

Flight reviews and currency requirements sit on a Due-Soon timeline, so a student or a CFI's own currency surfaces well before it lapses. It replaces the currency dates kept on a personal calendar.

Lesson & checkride scheduling

One calendar holds instruction and checkride bookings, so a CFI running multiple students sees the whole week in one place and avoids the double-booked Saturday. It replaces juggling lessons across a phone and a paper calendar.

07Training & checkrides

IACRA 8710-1 pre-fill

The 8710-1 builds straight from completed training records and exports as IACRA-ready CSV, so a checkride applicant isn't hand-keyed every time. It replaces filling out the 8710-1 by hand for every applicant.

Frequently asked questions

Part 61 — common questions

Does the 61.51 logbook export to ForeFlight?+

Yes. The logbook imports and exports ForeFlight-compatible CSV both directions, so you keep your existing history. Completed sessions also auto-post to the right logbook bucket by seat flown, so you don't double-enter at the end of the day.

Can I track endorsements per student?+

Yes. Each endorsement is a row with its expiry, the issuing CFI, and a stored signed document; renewals create new rows so the history is preserved and lapsing endorsements surface on a Due-Soon timeline.

Is AviationAlley overkill for an independent CFI?+

No — Part 61 is a deliberately lean operation. You get the airman record done right (logbook, endorsements, credential expiries, IACRA prep, currency reminders) without the airline back office. If you later add a Part 141 program, the same workspace scales up to it.
