Part 141 · Stage checks & endorsements
Stage-check workflow (in development)
In development: each enrollment's stage checks are designed to run a Scheduled → Pass / Fail → Re-check → Waive state machine, capturing the evaluator and the CFI certificate number, with a failed check creating a re-check rather than overwriting the record. The data model and the API for this exist today, but there is no /app screen yet to schedule a stage check or record a result, so it isn't a working feature yet. It's designed to replace the per-stage sign-offs that get missed until the checkride.
Launching the first quarter of 2027.
Illustrative — every screen reflects your own data.
Who it's for
Chief flight instructors who will use this once it ships — designed for reading where each student sits stage by stage instead of discovering a missed per-stage sign-off at the checkride.
What it replaces
Designed to eventually replace the per-stage CFI sign-offs that get missed until the checkride — not yet, since the workflow isn't reachable in the app.
What stage-check workflow (in development) gives you
- In development — the schema and API exist, the in-app workflow doesn't yet
- Designed as a Scheduled → Pass / Fail → Re-check → Waive state machine
- Not yet reachable from any /app page
In development — schema and API exist, no in-app workflow yet
As designed, each enrollment's stage checks would move along a Scheduled → Pass / Fail → Re-check → Waive state machine, with the evaluator and CFI certificate number captured for FAA-record fidelity. Today the data model and the API for this exist, but no /app page calls it — there's no way to schedule or record a stage check yet.
- Designed as a Scheduled → Pass / Fail → Re-check → Waive state machine
- Data model and API exist; the in-app workflow doesn't yet
A fail would create a re-check, never an overwrite
As designed, when a stage check fails the system would create the re-check rather than overwriting the result, so the progression history stays intact for the file. This is the designed behavior — it isn't reachable in the app today.
- Designed so a fail creates the re-check; nothing gets overwritten
- Not yet reachable in the app
How an operator uses this
This capability is in development. As designed, each enrollment's stage checks would move along a Scheduled → Pass / Fail → Re-check → Waive state machine, with the evaluator and CFI certificate number captured on the record. When a stage check fails, the system would create the re-check rather than overwriting the result, so the progression history stays intact for the file. Today, though, the data model and the API exist but there's no in-app screen to schedule a stage check or record a result — a chief instructor can't yet read where each student sits stage by stage from this feature.
Illustrative — every screen reflects what's in your own data, nothing more.
How it works
Stage-check workflow (in development), step by step
Not yet available — there is no in-app screen to schedule or record a stage check today.
As designed, a stage check would be scheduled against the student's enrollment.
As designed, recording a result would capture the evaluator and the CFI certificate number.
As designed, a pass would advance the student; a fail would create a re-check rather than overwriting the prior result.
Questions
Stage-check workflow (in development) — frequently asked
Does AviationAlley handle Part 141 stage checks?
Not yet — the data model and API exist, but there's no in-app workflow to schedule or record a stage check today. (The FAA hooks most relevant to stage checks sit in 14 CFR 141.37 and 141.85(a), not 141.71, which is only a Subpart E applicability clause.)
What happens when a student fails a stage check today?
There's no in-app way to record a stage-check result yet, pass or fail — that workflow is in development. Schools track this outside the platform until it ships.
